HP Smart Tank setup and troubleshooting
Smart Tank printers use refillable ink tanks instead of cartridges. First-time setup takes longer, and most problems come from that first setup or from air in the ink system.
How to set up a HP Smart Tank
- Fill each tank with the matching color bottle and install the printheads exactly as the setup guide shows.
- Let the printer finish ink priming — don’t power it off.
- Use HP Smart to connect to Wi-Fi and add the printer.
- Print an alignment page and scan it if the printer asks.
Then add it to your computer: Windows 11 · Windows 10 · Mac · Chromebook · Phone
Worth knowing
Never tip or ship a filled Smart Tank on its side — ink can leak inside. Check HP’s instructions before moving it.
