HP DeskJet setup and troubleshooting
DeskJets are HP’s budget all-in-one inkjets (for example the DeskJet 2700 and 2800 series and DeskJet 4100 series). They’re simple, but their small screens — or no screen at all — make Wi-Fi setup the most common sticking point.
How to set up a HP DeskJet
- Unpack, install the cartridges and load paper.
- Install HP Smart on your phone or computer and choose Add printer. Follow its steps to join Wi-Fi.
- If HP Smart can’t find it, restore the printer’s network settings (the button combination is in your model’s user guide on HP’s support site) and try again.
- Add the printer on any other computers using our setup guides.
Then add it to your computer: Windows 11 · Windows 10 · Mac · Chromebook · Phone
Worth knowing
Many current DeskJet “e” models are HP+ printers — see the HP+ note on our HP page.

Your exact model’s user guide, drivers and warranty support are on HP’s official site: HP Customer Support (opens the manufacturer’s site). Search for the full model number printed on the front or on the label inside the ink/toner door.
